How to run Bar Cop.

Step-by-step guides for every part of the app. Keep this open in a second window while you work, so you can follow along on your own screen.

Track Tips

Tip Tracking handles a day's tips two ways: the toggle up top picks Log Tips to record each person's actual cash and card tips, or Tip Pool to split a shared pool across the crew. Both share the same week and day picker. Tips feed the tip-credit check on Pay Periods and the Form 8027 worksheet in Books, so logging accurately here keeps those honest.

1. Set your tip-out rules first

Tip-outs come from Positions. On a tipped role, turn on Pays Tip Out, then choose whether it is a percent of their sales (usually 1 to 2 percent) or a percent of the tips they made (usually 10 to 20 percent), and set the number. Support roles like bussers and barbacks stay off and only receive. Set this once and the Tip Log splits itself correctly.

2. Log a day's tips

Open Labor → Tip Tracking on Log Tips and tap the day on the week strip. Bar Cop loads a row for every tipped employee scheduled to work it, adjusted by the Call-Out Log so a no-show drops off and whoever covered shows up. Tippable hours fill in from logged hours, or scheduled hours if those are not in yet. Type each person's cash and card off your tip sheet and save the whole day at once. Use Add Staff for anyone the schedule missed.

Most weeks you import this off your POS export on Close The Week in Labor instead. Bar Cop matches each row to your roster by name; imported tips land here to review and edit.

3. Read the tip-out split

The log splits into two sections. Pays / Receives Tip-Out is where staff enter cash tips, card tips, and total sales, and Bar Cop figures their tip-out on the basis you set; a tipped role that also gets a cut, like a bartender taking the bar share, gets a Received cell too. Receives Tip-Out gives each support person one cell to enter what they actually received, because the real distribution is yours to make. The Collected vs Distributed line flags any gap.

Bar Cop calculates the amounts only. How a tip-out is paid out is your call and your payroll provider's.

4. Or split a tip pool

Switch the toggle to Tip Pool to split one pool across the crew. Tap the day to preload who worked it, enter the pool amount, and pick By Hours Worked or Equal Split. Bar Cop works out each share live; watch the Unallocated figure, it should land at zero when the whole pool is distributed. Save Tip Pool stores the split and feeds the tip-credit check.

5. Review it in Tip History

Every day you log and every pool you split lands in history. Saved pools show at the bottom of Tip Pool mode with range-filtered totals up top; open the Tip Pools tab in Tip History to review a pool's per-person split. Edit reopens a record to fix a number without making a duplicate, and Export PDF saves the list.
